Hi, my name is Nick Diakopoulos. Diakopoulos is Greek, meaning “son of a deacon.” I spent some time in Germany a few years back, a land where ordinary C’s turn into kaiserific K’s. Thus was born Deakon Design. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.
I’m a 5th year Ph.D. student in the School of Interactive Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology. My interests currently lie at the intersection of human computer interaction (HCI), collaborative media authoring and annotation, and information visualization. I’m working with my advisor, Irfan Essa, in defining a research agenda relating to these areas. Check out some of the recent projects I’ve been working on.
Spring of 2008 I’ll be helping design/teach a course at GaTech: Computational Journalism CS4803/8803.
I’m program co-chair and generally helping to plan the Symposium on Computation and Journalism to be held at GaTech Feb 22-23, 2008.
